First AM Aircraft takes flight
The world’s first aircraft built using plastic Additive Manufacturing has taken to the skies and successfully flown at University of Southampton. 3T’s nylon SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) capabilities enabled the aircraft to be lightweight yet strong, and the four separate parts to be easily assembled with snap fittings. The internal structure contained mountings for all the mechanical workings, which again simply snapped into place.
