Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) is renowned for producing functional parts that are durable enough to withstand extensive testing and assembly trials. However, there is considerably more to SLS than just tough parts, as it is also possible to produce a high standard of aesthetic finish with the right skills and equipment.
Furthermore, the 'selective' nature of the building process generates complex and intricate 3-dimensional forms, opening up opportunities to create parts that are otherwise impossible to build using any other manufacturing method.
Our team of highly skilled modelmakers offer a range of finishing techniques, generating parts with quality aesthetics that are often comparable to the final manufactured item. Various levels of finishing are available, from the application of a single coat of paint to a fully finished marketing model with a high gloss finish.

Holy Ghost Chair
Lionel Dean of FutureFactories took Philippe Stark's iconic Louis Ghost chair and fitted an alternative back to it. Using a form of intelligent software the design evolves by rebuilding itself in real-time, finally creating a unique design. Every hybrid chair manufactured is a one-off and SLS lends itself perfectly to this concept, as individual designs can be quickly and accurately reproduced.

Oxford Instruments Desktop Magnet
Crucible Industrial Design Ltd took advantage of 3T's expertise when their customer, Oxford Instruments, asked them to develop a new range of desktop magnets. 3T's expert team of modelmakers and finishers produced a fully painted model of the product, successfully combining the functionality of SLS with high quality aesthetics.
