E-Commerce Developments at 3T RPD

3T RPD is a company born into the e-commerce world.  Set up in 1999 to utilise the latest manufacturing techniques, a dependency on high technology and efficient communication mediums have been a necessity.

With very high growth rates planned, there was a marked reluctance to commit to a conventionally printed brochure.  Instead, 3T turned to the web as a means of increasing awareness and alerting companies to the possibilities that could now be delivered.

Now, almost 18 months later and with significant growth already achieved, the benefits of this policy are becoming clear.  A forthcoming move to larger premises will be significantly simpler to achieve with no legacy material to contend with. 

From this conventional starting point, 3T have moved quickly on to deliver the 24/7 Programme; an automatic quoting system that can be accessed around the clock.  Working from key data precludes the need to upload sensitive information to a central server.  The system responds instantly with prices, as well as e-mailing out an official quotation.

This service has now been extended to allow users to convert quotations into orders, which are subsequently processed by 3T.  Files are uploaded separately and checked against the key data used to create the quotation.  Custom written in-house software allows the internal job tracking paperwork to be generated very quickly.  Hence customers gain flexibility and 3T can provide a faster service.

Phase 3 is targeted for the summer and will upgrade the existing system to a full remote ordering and payment channel.  This will allow customers to effectively complete business with 3T without any verbal contact at all.  Whilst this is not the primary goal, there are significant benefits to be accrued when dealing with companies abroad who are running in other time zones.

Phase 3 will also extend the existing credit card payment options to allow companies to reduce the overhead usually associated with raising and processing purchase orders.  As 3T continues to make inroads into overhead reductions, these are passed back to the customer in the form of reduced prices. With some parts shipping out for less than £30.00 per part, the customer can easily be incurring greater costs during the administrative process of raising an order than the value of the order itself!
