Home >> Latest News >> 3T goes Alumide 3T goes Alumide 3T RPD Ltd has recently started supplying components in Alumide™, the Aluminium-Filled Nylon material from EOS. Providing an alternative to the conventional Nylon, Glass-Filled Nylon or Polystyrene, Alumide™ provides an entirely new look and feel to Laser Sintered components. The greatest difference is visual, with components taking on a ‘metallic’ appearance similar to ‘as cast’ aluminium. This can be further enhanced by dressing or machining – a feature that has already made Alumide™ a favourite amongst many Motorsport teams. Component accuracy and material stability are both excellent. The full mechanical properties can be viewed at www.3trpd.co.uk/technical-information.htm, where those for Glass-Filled Nylon are listed for comparison. “We are reviewing the impact of this material as it is expected to open up several new applications” stated Tim Plunkett, CEO of 3T RPD Ltd. The material is currently being run on an EOS P360 machine, giving a build capacity of 340x340x620mm. 3T run two P360’s and two P700’s, so there is considerable scope for expansion should the market adopt the material as a standard. For those wishing to evaluate the material first hand, 3T will be exhibiting at the TCT Exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham on 4th-6th October 2005. Alternatively, sets of Nylon, Glass-Filled Nylon and Alumide samples for comparison are available from 3T on +44 (0)1635 580284 .
