Ask Our Experts

Our customers appreciate the additive manufacturing experts that work at 3T. From the first phone call, to the final quality check and authorisation for despatch, it’s our 3T team that makes the difference. Everyone is trained to deliver quality service and quality products, and our high standards have been recognised with AS 9100 Rev C for the production of metal parts using additive manufacturing (AM), ISO certification 13485 – the standard required for medical devices – and ISO certification 9001.

We’ve profiled some of the people you’ll be in contact with if you get in touch. But we also know that the people “behind the scenes” are just as important for delivering quality products, so we’d like to introduce you to some of them here as well.

Plastics Post Processing Team Leader

My job I work on every aspect of the customers parts after being built and before they go out of the door. I work in the breakout area, do blasting to remove excess powder, inspect the part to ensure it meets the every aspect of the job sheet and then pack it carefully to make sure it arrives in the best condition.
Best bit of job Every day, I have the pleasure of being the first person in the world to touch a brand new thing.
Experience My background is as an aircraft engineer and telecom engineer in Portugal.
When not at work I enjoy watching 'engineering style' TV programmes like 'How It's Made'. I also talk to my parrot Ghanji and teach him new vocabulary.

When not at work I generally like all sports but I eat, drink, sleep, play football ...

Clive : Plastics Specialist Finishing Team Leader

Plastics Specialist Finishing Team Leader

My job I lead the team that does all the post production work on the parts.  We do the finishing of all the plastic parts - whether that's hand painting, spraying, model making - whatever.  That means I have a keen eye on quality control and keep up to date with the technology to ensure we are giving our customers the very best service and products.
Best bit of job I like the challenge of not knowing what's coming round the corner - and then working out how to give the customer what they want ... and sometimes delivering a part that is even better than they thought they wanted!  I'm a craftsman at heart and I love it when customers appreciate the 'craft' that has gone into producing their parts.  And I enjoy passing on my skills.
Experience I trained as a silversmith and have worked in the aerospace and consumer goods sectors.  I've got a broad background and can honestly say I've never had a boring job.
When not at work Once an artist, always an artist - I paint and sculpt in my spare time.

Graham : Facilities Manager

Facilities Manager

My job Ensuring 3T has a world class facility, with the highest standards of environment, equipment and Health & Safety. Layout planning, TPM schedules, HSE, safety culture, production efficiency and equipment installations are also covered by my role.
Best bit of job Planning, maintaining and improving 3T’s already excellent facilities.
Experience I have worked in Rapid Prototyping & Manufacturing since 1993, using 3D CAD, SLA, Vacuum Casting, Selective Laser Sintering & DMLS. I have been with 3T since we started trading in early 2000.
When not at work Having 2 small girls is almost a full time job in itself.  But I enjoy travelling, sports and collecting car brochures.

Jon : Metals Technical Manager

Metals Technical Manager

My job I provide technical and design assistance to customers at the initial quote stage, and run the metal machines that we have on site.  At the initial quote stage I provide the technical input to ensure components are priced accurately, and then ensure parts are manufactured to the highest quality possible.
Best bit of job Every geometry that is manufactured in metal is slightly different from the last.  I enjoy pushing the technology to achieve what others believe to be impossible.
Experience After graduating from Loughborough University with a design degree I have worked in the additive manufacturing industry since 2004. Having worked on Selective Laser Sintering, SLA, Wax and Vacuum Casting technologies, I have been focusing on metal AM technology for five years.
When not at work I attempt to travel and see as much of the world as possible with my amazing wife.  I also enjoy photography, both landscape and wedding.

Dave : Plastics Finishing Specialist

Plastics Finishing Specialist

My job I'm responsible for all operations once the parts have left the machines - once it's a real thing rather than a pile of noughts and ones. We do the first of the series of quality checks, and then complete a range of finishing tasks to the customers' specification. That can involve painting, colouring, fitting inserts, smoothing, assembling (welding and gluing) and anything else the customers’ requests.
Best bit of job I like it all. I like the variety, particularly the fact that we make bespoke pieces rather than having to work on thousands of the same part.
Experience I’ve been an electroplater and non destructive testing inspector. I've worked in the aerospace and defence industries.
When not at work Recently, I’ve taken up jogging but I’ve not gone very far or very fast yet!  I’m also planning to do a charity bike ride with my younger son.

Lars : Metals Production Manager

Metals Production Manager

My job I'm the customer's first point of contact if they want a metal AM piece made. I keep communication going between CAD and the customer; then follow the work through to process all the way to dispatch.
Best bit of job Seeing good work go out of the door.
Experience After an apprenticeship at AWE, I spent ten years at Prodrive. I worked up from being a machinist and latterly was a production planner and also test driver for Aston Martin Racing.
When not at work I’m either on the tennis court or anywhere there is motor racing going on.

Paul : Plastics Process Control Team Leader

Plastics Process Control Team Leader

My job It’s my job to make sure that the manufacture of AM plastic parts runs smoothly. Most of my time is spent on maintaining and improving 3T’s high standard of part quality through optimising machine parameters and powder control.
Best bit of job Seeing the parts on the bench.  When a part looks crisp with good colouring and surface texture, I know I’m doing my job well and that the customer will be happy.
Experience I started my career as an apprentice mechanical engineer.  Then went into a drawing office where I polished my CAD skills.  I started at 3T on the CAD side, moved into projects and now enjoy working on the process control side.
When not at work I compete in marathons and triathlons so I’m always in training for the next one!
