3T Build Blue Peter UAV

08 May 2012 ...

BBC’s Blue Peter programme has run a competition to name and design the livery of a new 3D printed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).  The UAV has been built by 3T RPD and designed by the BBC’s Research and Technology team in collaboration with the University of Southampton.  The plane, which has already been shown on the programme (both in the air and in the studio), carries the latest in camera technology; it will be used to record footage for a variety of programmes.

The UAV will enable the BBC to send a camera to record footage in hard to reach places (for example for natural history documentaries) or at music or sporting events and will be much cheaper than hiring a helicopter.

This is the second project we have partnered with the University of Southampton’s team who run an MSc in Unmanned Vehicle Systems Design – the first being the world’s first printed UAV.

We’ll post more news on the development of this exciting project.
